How to make a Book Marker

It happens like every morning.

The same thing.

I am reading my Bible and decide that I will read 'this' book of the Bible.

And then I will fold some paper together and make a little book marker.

I will use that folded piece of paper for awhile and for some reason or another that paper will disappear.

...probably from my Bible traveling from my purse to the church to back to my purse.

And then the process starts all over again.

...I will need another book marker.

The other day I decided to make a few book markers for an event coming up on Sunday.

Since I started this Good Artbox blog, I have accumulated my share of markers and various kinds of paper.

One type of paper that I have is cardstock paper.

I use cardstock paper to make cards that I give to my family for different holidays.

You can use any type of paper that you want but I chose to go with cardstock paper because it is a bit heavier than regular paper.

What you will need to make a super simple book marker of your own is:

Paper (cardstock paper)
Scissors
Clear Packaging Tape
Markers
Ruler

I used copic markers because I love them.

Decide what size that you want your book marker.

Using a ruler and pencil, trace the size that you want.

Cut.

Decorate with markers.

Use the packaging tape to cover the book marker.  This is like laminating without the big machine.

Cut the loose ends of the tape.

Be sure to put tape on the back of the book marker to ensure your entire book marker is "laminated".

Voila!

Your very own unique book marker.

Do you have a lot of book markers on hand?

Have you ever created your own book marker?

Let me know in the comment section below!

Special Needs Homeschooling: Sight Words

I found sight word printables at Mr.Printables website.  I really like them.

I like them because  they are straight to the point.  The words are printed clearly on them and there are no pictures associated with the word.

And not having a little picture on the sight word is the best way to teach sight words.

A lot of times children will see the letter "A" and instead of saying "A" the child will say the word "apple".  That might be cute for some people but that is unacceptable to me.

Because I am Special Needs Homeschooling, I want my daughter to recognize words on sight not pictures.

And please don't misunderstand what I am saying here.  We use picture books as you saw in this post.

But when it comes to teaching sight words, the sight words have to stand alone.

Having said that, I love the "Sight Words" I found at Mr. Printables.

First I downloaded them.  Then printed them out and cut them out.

I had bought a watch from Target and lo and behold, the "sight words" fit into the little watchbox!!

Do you use sight word cards?

Have you tried Mr. Printables?

Have you ever used a "watchbox" for sight word cards?

And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.

Greeting Card Confetti for Valentine Day Cards

When I wrote this post here, my sweet blog friend, Ann commented that the art idea of that post would be great for Valentine's Day.

I figured I might as well spread the love and make some Valentine confetti!

Since I will be seeing my two college daughters in the next few days, I decided that they would be the recipients of the Valentine cheer!

What you will need to make Valentine confetti is:
Watercolor paint or any paint
Gel pen
Watercolor paper or cardstock
Scissors
Greeting Card
Cheerful Spirit

This was just as exciting as when I made the Christmas confetti (read Christmas confetti post here)!

What you will need to do is:
-Paint red and pink blotches on the paper.

-Let dry.

-After paint has completely dried, draw hearts and flowers with the gel pen.

-Cut around the hearts and flowers.

-Cheefully place the hearts and flowers inside card.

-Mail or give to recipient!

Ann was right!  Greeting card confetti is a great idea for Valentine's Day!

A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance:... -Proverbs 15:13

I also tossed in some construction paper hearts that I made as well as the watercolor ones!  So you could also cut out construction paper hearts as confetti!

Cardboard and yarn Letters

I saw yarn covered letters on Pinterest. One day I decided to use that idea for my youngest daughter's arts and crafts lesson.

First I wrote the letters we would use with a black Sharpie.  I love Sharpies!

Then we started the wrapping process. You may have to use tape on the back just in case the yarn is not tight enough or something.

I thought it was a good project for my daughter because of the complexity of the wrapping.

So the supply list included:
Cardboard
Yarn
Scissors
Tape (if needed)
Black Marker to write letters

Since I crochet and knit, I had the yarn.  Some of my family members do a lot of business online so there were plenty of cardboard boxes on hand.  We had scissors, tape and markers.  I did have to use washi tape though. ...ran out of the other kind.

I added a couple of fabric flowers to a few of the yarn covered letters.  I thought it gave the letters a little pop!

John 20:7 And the napkin, that was about His head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

Christmas Card Confetti

I found this really cool Flower Confetti on this really cool blog!

Well, seeing that Christmas is right around the corner and Christmas cards will be mailed out soon, I actually saw a need for Christmas Confetti.

Yes, Christmas Card Confetti!

I wanted to make this so much that I made it without a Christmas Card just to see what it looked like. So now when I purchase my cards, I will already know the excitement of it all! -so fun!

To begin this little project, I made a few watercolor blotches on watercolor paper.  I took the paintbrush and rubbed it over the tip of the watercolor pencils.  Doing it this way seems to make the color a little darker.

Part of the fun and beauty of this is the imperfections of the blotches which makes it perfect.
After letting the blotches dry, I used a gel pen to draw around the blotches.

I drew Christmas trees, flowers, and snowmen.  I also drew a star and star flower.
After drawing around the blotches, I cut out the shapes.

On the back of a couple of the confetti, I wrote a little note.

And voila!  You have Christmas Card Confetti!

Simply stick inside any Christmas card and let the cheer spill out!

So now you can add a little extra Christmas cheer to those Christmas cards!

This is also a great project for the kids to do.  They could glue them to the outside of envelopes or make a Christmas scene on paper.

What are some Christmas projects that you are doing this year?
Let me know in the comment section.
